As the premier White Labrador kennel of the South,  we have been breeding and raising exquisite white English Labradors  for conformation, temperament, and companionship for over 20 years.  Located on 30 acres of fields, ponds, and shaded woods, our property is perfect for Labradors! We exclusively breed  "typey"  White Labradors ranging in color from cream to snow white;  strong bone, square heads, black pigment  and "gentleman's"  temperaments are the result. We get comments on our dogs daily; their singular striking appearance is unmatched! We truly believe that our dogs' temperaments and "manners" are a reflection of our breeding program. Look around our site, it is evident that our dogs are not the typical "pet-bred" White Labradors commonly found, but are THE SUPERLATIVE  WHITE LABRADOR!

The White Labradors at Idlewild are more fortunate than most! Our choice cream and snow white Labradors are superlative representatives of the breed.  We only keep, show and breed the best of the best White Labradors; low, stocky bodies, proper head shape and structure, excellent pigment and type. You WILL NEVER find dogs lacking in pigment, with whippety-thin tails, small heads, or  tall narrow bodies here!! Puppies are well socialized, and introduced to new sights, sounds, and experiences while here to ensure each puppy is a great candidate to be a cherished family friend!   All puppies are sold as pets, and come with AKC Limited Registration. Our dogs are tested /cleared for OFA Hips and Elbows, OFA Heart, Eye CERF/AVCO, EIC, prcd-PRA and CNM.

Temperament is a top priority with our dogs; we would never breed a litter or keep dogs with less than the perfect Labrador temperament; loyal, calm, loving, trainable, mannered and highly social. All our puppies are socialized and sensitized during their puppy formative weeks to ensure that this "hallmark of the breed" stays true. Idlewild does not breed "types" of Labradors; you never have to ask which litter is best for true Labrador temperament. The only dogs we have are adoring loving pets. We are ultra-conscious in our breeding program  never to keep, breed or breed to Labradors that are fieldy, obsessive, snippy, barky, hyperactive, overly-driven or performance oriented; our dogs are "PEOPLE-ORIENTED!"

Our elite, painstakingly planned  white English Labrador litters are the result of arduous research and temperament testing. We are continuously striving to improve our lines; we do countless hours of research on White English Labradors all across the country to find the best match for our choice  females. For the discriminating  White Labrador puppy buyer, the waiting list may seem long, but our puppies are certainly worth the wait! The AKC only recognizes three colors of Labrador; Black, Chocolate and Yellow.   We describe our Labradors as "White", although they are the AKC accepted color "Yellow' and will be registered by the AKC as "Yellow", although we like the very light white coats. Of course, we do not breed solely for color, but for the superb temperament, low, stocky bodies, square heads, black pigment, and proper body/tail set that is so hard to find. "White" is not a separate color of the Labrador, but only a shade of Yellow. There is a great interest now in all the different beautiful shades of yellow within the AKC standard; some breeders now only breed the "Fox Red'' shade of Yellow, just as we prefer the light, almost white Yellow. These are not "rare" or "new" shades, and should not be promoted as such. Many kennels only breed Blacks, or "Fox Reds" or only Chocolates, because that is the color they prefer; we prefer the  light Yellow. Interesting reading on beautiful Labrador coat colors can be found here.

We ask lots of questions
before deciding on a new family for our pups; we know they are worth it.  Our Puppy Application can be submitted online here. We want to make sure our elite white Labrador puppies are placed with families who will provide the puppy with an active, loving lifestyle.  We do not have other breeds or other "businesses" as do so many sub-par breeders. Labradors are our only focus!! We do not condone breeding or allowing to be bred tall, narrow, snipey, or  non-type Labradors. A picture is worth a thousand words when comparing our White Labradors!! We expect your new white Labrador puppy to be a lifelong love affair!  We also offer Labrador stud service; we utilize both natural breedings and chilled semen to approved females.

Do you have questions for us?
We encourage you to ask them! We abide by ethical breeder standards, and also follow the "How to Find a Good Dog Breeder" manual set forth by the AKC.  Below is our new kennel facility.

Puppy visits are for depositors ONLY, and can begin only after pups have had their first shot, at 6 weeks of age. We are NOT a commercial kennel, puppy factory nor high volume breeder. We are VERY choosy about our new puppy families, and as such we are VERY choosy about when/how visits are made.

"'Men,' said Mr. Kyle, 'people have been trying to understand dogs ever since the beginning of time. One never knows what they'll do. You can read every day where a dog saved the life of a drowning child, or lay down his life for his master. Some people call this loyalty. I don't. I may be wrong, but I call it love--the deepest kind of love.'"
